TELLING THE TIME

CREATE A POWER POINT PRESENTATION, UPLOAD IT TO VOICE-THREAD AND SHARE IT WITH YOUR STUDENTS FOR THEM TO READ MEANWHILE YOU EXPLAIN

 GRAMMAR NOTE I: THE TIME
Explanation:
There are two common ways of telling the time.
E.g.: what time is it?
First way: Say the hours first and then the minutes.
Example: 7:45 – it is seven forty-five a.m. or p.m.
For minutes 01 through 09, you can pronounce the '0' as oh.
Example: 11:06 – it is eleven (oh) six a.m. or p.m.
Second way: Say the minutes first and then the hours. Use past and the preceding hour for minutes 01 through 30. Use to and the forthcoming hour for minutes 31 through 59.
Example: 7.15 – it is fifteen minutes past seven or it is a quarter past seven.
Example: 7.45 – it is fifteen minutes to eight or it is a quarter to seven.
Example: 5:30 – it is half past five.
It is not usual to use a.m. and p.m. with past or to.
Show the watch to the students or draw it on the board.
Note
Use o'clock only at the full hour.
Example: 7:00 – it is seven o'clock.
You can use the expressions ‘’in the morning or in the afternoon’’
Example: 5:30 – it is five thirty in the morning or in the afternoon.
For times around midnight or midday you can use the expressions midnight or midday / noon instead of the number 12.

(STUDENTS GO TO THE FOLLOWING LINK: https://www.facebook.com/groups/410788525610938/doc/410815578941566/)

DAILY ROUTINES
Give students a few examples of what a person might do every day (simple present).
Marcos gets up at 6:30.                                               I take a shower at 7:00 o’clock.
Maria takes the bus to school at 6:40.                         My parents go to bed at 10:00 o'clock.
She does the dishes after dinner.                                You work in the garden at 8:30.
He talks to his friends at night.                                   We do the homework at 7:30.
sequencing vocabulary: students can learn about sequencing by putting familiar events, ideas and objects into their logical order using the following order: first, next, then, after that and finally

Asking about daily routine: “What do you do every day/in the morning/after lunch” “What time does X go jogging?”  “What does X do after work?” “Does X take a coffee break?”)
NOTE: expressions with ‘’have’’. One use of have is to talk about actions. E.g.: I have breakfast/a drink/coffee/a rest/a nice day, etc.
Expressions with ‘’go’’. You use it in many expressions. E.g.: go to bed, go out, go to the shopping mall, go to a bar, go on vacation, etc.

  1. good to show the clock to the students because in the way you do they can understand faster the present and the things that they do everyday

  2. Instead of sending that information via e-mail, why don´t you create it in a power point presentation and upload it to voicethread?
